When Apple announced the iOS 15 update in June during the company's WWDC 2021 event, App Privacy Report was one of the most powerful privacy features revealed.
Apple did not include a way for users to check the privacy report when iOS 15 was released in September; this was added in the iOS 15.2 update, which was released on December 13th.
Users can now easily monitor which apps are constantly accessing their information and deny those apps permissions, while also keeping track of which URLs apps are connecting to throughout the day.
You can now quickly check and stop apps like Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, or Tinder from polling your location or accessing your camera roll if you have an iPhone 6s or newer smartphone and have updated to iOS 15.2.
It's worth noting that the feature is disabled by default, so users must manually enable it before it can provide any information. Here's how to enable and use your App Privacy Report on iOS 15.2 quickly:
1. Go to Privacy by tapping on the Settings icon.
2. Scroll to the bottom and select App Privacy Report.
3. Tap on Turn On App Privacy Report to enable the feature.
4. Return in a few minutes to view the list of apps included in the report.
The iOS 15 App Privacy Report feature allows users to easily check permission usage, network activity, website network activity, and the most frequently contacted domains on their smartphone.
Here's how you can understand the information after you've turned it on:
1. Go to Privacy by tapping on the Settings icon.
2. Scroll to the bottom and select App Privacy Report.
3. Now, under Data and Sensor Access, select any app to view the timeline of various permissions accessed.
4. Tap an app in App Network Activity to see how many (and which) domains it accessed.
5. Tap on some of the domains listed under Most Contacted Domains to see which apps used them.
The App Privacy Report feature will collect and display data from the previous seven days of use, but you can reset the information at any time.
The following are the steps to resetting or disabling App Privacy Report on iOS 15.2:
1. Go to Privacy by tapping on the Settings icon.
2. Scroll to the bottom and select App Privacy Report.
3. At the bottom, tap Turn Off App Privacy Report.
4. Exit the Settings app if you want to disable the feature.
To clear the usage data and start over, simply enable the App Privacy Report feature as described at the beginning of this article.
